Prepare your import
Before committing to a vehicle from Korea, confirm that the specific car can be imported and used as intended in your destination. Prepare the importer and consignee details, obtain a local cost estimate, and agree on the documents and arrival arrangements with your customs broker or relevant authorities.

1. Define the Destination and Intended Use
Tell our team the country where the vehicle will ultimately be imported and registered, as well as the planned arrival port. Explain if the shipment will pass through another country, be re-exported, or be used commercially.
Language, local currency, and shipping destination are useful website preferences, but they answer different questions. A currency being available on the website or a port appearing in the shipping calculator does not establish the import eligibility of a particular car.
Spanish-, Arabic-, French-, and Russian-speaking buyers may operate in many different countries. Base your import preparation on the destination's requirements and your transaction details.
2. Send Your Broker the Actual Vehicle Details
Ask a qualified local customs broker and the relevant vehicle registration or approval authority what information they need to assess your purchase. Prepare the listing link and available vehicle details, including:
- Make, model, variant, and VIN or chassis number where available.
- Manufacture and registration dates where relevant and available.
- Engine or powertrain details, fuel type, seating capacity, and intended use.
- Steering configuration, condition, and available technical or history records.
Ask which eligibility conditions apply to that exact vehicle, what supporting evidence is needed, and whether any approval must be obtained before purchase or shipment. If a specification is missing, request it from MAX AUTO before treating the check as complete.
3. Confirm Who Will Import and Receive the Vehicle
The buyer, payer, importer, and consignee may have different roles. Establish the intended arrangement with your broker and tell MAX AUTO before transaction documents are issued.
Ask whether the importer needs any registration, licence, tax identifier, or other authorization for this purchase. Confirm how the legal name and address should appear on the invoice and transport documents. Use the receiving party's confirmed details rather than an informal trading name or incomplete address.
4. Build the Destination Budget
Ask your broker for an itemized estimate based on the actual vehicle and shipment. Useful questions include:
- Which duties, taxes, fees, or other charges apply, and how will they be calculated?
- What port, terminal, release, clearance, or storage charges should I plan for?
- What inspection, approval, registration, insurance, or modification costs may apply to my intended use?
- What does collection and onward transport to my location cost?
These are categories to investigate, not a statement that every charge applies in every country. Ask who charges each item, when it is due, and how long the estimate is valid. Combine the confirmed local amounts with your MAX AUTO quotation and payment costs to build your overall budget.
For EU destinations, the European Commission's Access2Markets is an official starting point for tariffs, taxes, formalities, and product requirements. Continue with the relevant national customs and vehicle authorities for your specific import and registration questions.
5. Agree on Documents and Timing
Request a written document list from your broker for the proposed shipment. Ask which documents must be original, which electronic copies are acceptable, and whether translations or other formalities are required.
Share that list with MAX AUTO before shipment so the requirements and available documents can be discussed. Confirm deadlines and ask which details your broker needs to review while drafts can still be corrected.
If an answer remains unresolved, mark it clearly in your preparation notes. A shipping booking does not settle a missing local approval or document requirement.
6. Prepare for Arrival and Collection
Before arrival, reconfirm the latest schedule with the parties handling your shipment. Agree who will arrange clearance, obtain release, pay applicable local charges, and collect the vehicle. Ask what happens if the schedule changes or clearance takes longer than expected.
Keep your broker's contact, the consignee details, confirmed documents, and shipment reference together. Share changes promptly with the people handling the transaction.
